Why do we need to go beyond GDP?
GDP measures production, not well-being. It doesn't distinguish between growth that benefits everyone and growth that only concentrates wealth. It's blind to the informal economy — which in Mexico represents over 50% of economic activity.
A country can have a growing GDP while its citizens experience more stress, worse health, and less social mobility. We need to measure what truly matters.
What GDP doesn't see
- ✕Real distribution of income and wealth
- ✕Subjective well-being and mental health
- ✕Informal economy and unpaid work
- ✕Toxic growth (addictions, predatory debt)
- ✕Intergenerational social mobility
- ✕Environmental impact and sustainability
The indicators
MSB — Gross Substantive Mobility
Measures the gross economic mobility of a territory. It's an aggregate indicator that weights transactions by their contribution to real well-being.
Level: Territorial (city, state, country)
Input: Transactional volume + aggregated biomarkers
Output: 0–100 index of substantive mobility
MIB — Gross Internal Mobility
Measures whether a specific person has more agency capacity. Weights individual transactions with biometric well-being data (cortisol, dopamine, serotonin).
Level: Individual (person)
Input: Personal transactions + individual biomarkers
Output: Well-being and personal mobility index
The 1:1:1 architecture
One tax. One dividend. One pair of indicators. Three pieces that work as a closed system.
Digital transaction
Each transaction generates a universal micro-tax of 0.3%.
Universal dividend
Revenue is redistributed as a dividend to the entire population, without targeting.
MSB / MIB
The indicators measure whether the system is generating real mobility or toxic growth.
🔴 Toxic growth
Transactions that generate economic activity but reduce well-being:
- • Addictions and compulsive consumption
- • Predatory debt with high interest rates
- • Medical spending on preventable diseases
- • High cortisol → MSB rises, MIB falls
🟢 Virtuous growth
Transactions that generate economic activity and increase well-being:
- • Education and skill development
- • Access to preventive health and housing
- • Productive saving and investment
- • High dopamine/serotonin → MSB and MIB rise
